Summary:
The book Fire Star by Chris d'Lacey follows David Rain in his adventure to the high Canadian Arctic while writing a new book for Apple Tree Publishing. David begins to write about the fire star, the polar bears and the dragons but after a close encounter he realizes that everything he writes happens to him. Feeling like danger was coming for the Pennykettles, David got a flight back to Scrubbly. Little did he know that his enemy had already been there. Now David must find out the truth about the Pennykettle family and their dragons as well as how he fits into the story. After reading this installment of The Last Dragon Chronicles, I must say that I am a fan of Chris d'lacey. "Fire Star" is the perfect title for this book because it gives a sneak peek as to what the book is about. By the time you get to chapter two, you will feel like you are viewing the story through the characters eyes and are experiencing everything they are. The dragons in the story have so many human-like qualities and personalities that you will end up seeing a bit of yourself in each one of them. The story was filled with moments that will have you holding on to the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next, moments when your cheeks hurt from smiling and moments where you just don't know how to react. I think these are all factors of a great story and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. The book Fire Star by Chris d'Lacey follows David Rain in his adventure to the high Canadian Arctic while writing a new book for Apple Tree Publishing. Summary:
A monster calls is about a 13 year old boy named Conor O’Malley has a reoccurring nightmare about a specific monster he can’t get rid of. One night at seven minutes past twelve a monster paid him a visit. The monster wasn’t the one from the nightmare, this monster was the Yew tree from the cemetery across the street. At first Conor thought it was just a figure of his imagination but every time he “woke up” there was some evidence that the monster was real. One time he woke up and stepped in Yew leaves and another time he needed to cut out a sapling from the floorboards in his bedroom. The monster wants one thing from Conor and it wants the truth. The monster would tell Conor three stories for a fourth in return and that story was Conor’s worst nightmare. The way Patrick Ness describes the similarities between characters instead of their differences makes the reader realize that not all characters have to be different and that some characters may be closer than you realize. The technique is very effective especially in this book. Two physically different characters, such as a thirteen year old boy and a Yew tree that is also a monster, can be so close emotionally or mentally just by sharing some experiences and overcoming challenges together. A Monster Calls had both internal and external conflict throughout the story and a great balance of each conflict. At the beginning when the characters’ lives were separate there was more external conflict and in the end when the characters were closer bonded there was more internal conflict with the main characters. Having a connection with the characters can make a story more relatable. In some cases the characters need to be different to continue the story line but sometimes there needs to be the characters that have almost everything in common because they reflect their feelings off each other and this makes it easier to relate to how the characters are actually feeling. Overall I think that this story was beautifully written and I would recommend it to anyone.A monster calls is about a 13 year old boy named Conor O’Malley has a reoccurring nightmare about a specific monster he can’t get rid of. Summary:
Day of Doom is the continuation of Trust No One and the final book in The 39 Clues Cahills vs. Vespers series. The Vespers kidnapped seven Cahills as hostages and in return for the hostages safety they want Amy and Dan Cahill to steal some items for them. On the last request the Cahills find out that the items they had stolen were going to be used to create a doomsday device and Amy just gave them the last piece they needed. Meanwhile, Dan had been collecting the serum ingredients from the clue hunt. Feeling like it was their last hope of defeating the Vespers, he recreated the serum and he drank it. Little did he know that something had been done to the drink. Now there were only six Cahill hostages left and the Vespers are stronger than they ever were before. They have the final piece of the doomsday device but the Cahills weren’t about to let the Vespers get away with their plans. Once again the fate of the world depends on Amy, Dan and the Cahill family. David Baldacci is a new author to the 39 Clues family and he did an amazing job writing the book. The book was thrilling and so descriptive that I felt like I was running along with the Cahills trying to stop the vespers’ evil plan. The book was filled with plot twists that will surprise even the most dedicated 39 Clues readers and surprises that will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat. Characters will switch sides and the further you read the harder it is to tell who is on the Cahill’s side or who works for Vesper one’s organization. Over all the book was great and it is a definite must read for any 39 Clues fan.Day of Doom is the continuation of Trust No One and the final book in The 39 Clues Cahills vs. Vespers series. Summary:
Beatrice lives in a society that is divided into five factions that are dedicated to one trait each. Now that she is sixteen she must choose which of the factions she devotes her life to. Beatrice and the other sixteen year olds have a choice between the Abnegation to be selfless, the Dauntless to be brave, the Candor to be honest, the Erudite to be intelligent and the Amity to be peaceful. Before they decide they must take the aptitude test which will reveal the faction they belong to. Beatrice's results show that she is different than the other sixteen year olds because she qualified for three different factions which made her Divergent so now she has to keep the test results a secret or it can put her life at risk.
When it came to the time of the choosing ceremony, Beatrice did not choose to stay Abnegation but instead chose Dauntless. During Dauntless initiation Beatrice (now called Tris) went through physical training and a series of mental simulations. All of the training and challenges Tris had to face whether it was real or in a simulation made her realize that her Abnegation selflessness is what helped her gain Dauntless bravery. Though one question remains for Beatrice. What is Divergent?
This book is action packed and full of plot twists and suspense that had me sitting on the edge of my seat every time I turned the page. Veronica Roth's description of Beatrice's point of view was just detailed enough to make me feel like I was the character, living and doing everything she did. If someone in the book was holding their breath I found myself doing the same as if I were in the book. “Divergent” is the perfect title for this book because it has to do a lot with the different factions in the book. Also it is one of the reasons that made me choose this book. A title and plot that makes you think, is always a good read. This is the first book I’ve read by Veronica Roth and I am already a huge fan of hers.Beatrice lives in a society that is divided into five factions that are dedicated to one trait each.
