Full disclosure: I am a long time vegetarian in my 70's, practicing extreme sports and spending 7 to 9 hours a week in intensive gym training.
I am not convinced by Gundry's argument about lectins being hazardous: for years my diet has been based in many of the plants that he deems dangerous: legumes, peanuts, nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, aubergine, etc)... I am in perfect health and weight. Gundry encourages cruciferous, (cauliflowers, brussels sprouts, cabbage,, etc) which from my personal experience and research as an hypothyroidism sufferer are to be avoided or limited.
The following is from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Gundry
The Gundry MD philosophy is a radical departure from the traditional dietary 'wisdom'".[12] Gundry has authored two books focused on food-based health interventions, recommending a plant-based diet.[13][14] Although not mentioned in his first book Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution: Turn Off the Genes That Are Killing You and Your Waistline, in his second book The Plant Paradox he advocated avoiding lectins, a class of proteins found in numerous plants.[4] In 2018 he published an accompanying recipe book.[15] T. Colin Campbell, a biochemist and advocate for plant-based diets, said that The Plant Paradox contained numerous poorly supported scientific claims and that it did not make a "convincing argument that lectins as a class are hazardous."[7] Robert H. Eckel, an endocrinologist and past president of the American Heart Association, stated that Gundry's diet advice was "against every dietary recommendation represented by the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association and so on" and that it was not possible to draw any conclusions from Gundry's own research on the effects of lectin-free diets due to the absence of any control patients.[16] Writing in New Scientist, the food writer and chef Anthony Warner noted that Gundry's theories "are not supported by mainstream nutritional science" and that evidence of the benefits of high-lectin containing diets "is so overwhelming as to render Gundry’s arguments laughable".[17] Gundry sells supplements, including some costing $80 per month, that he claims protect people from what he describes as the damaging effect of lectins.[9][7][17][6] Today's Dietician confirmed that there was evidence of harm from lectin consumption of some raw foods like kidney beans, but added "Although the research on lectin ... is still emerging, preliminary studies have revealed potential health benefits of lectin consumption and minute evidence of harm."Full disclosure: I am a long time vegetarian in my 70's, practicing extreme sports and spending 7 to 9 hours a week in intensive gym training.

Is this the fantastic dystopian novel it is purported to be? Not to me, not in 100 years. Its premises are silly. As silly as those of another supposedly great novel, this one from the right wing, Ayn Rand's "Atlas shrugged".
Besides, I found it boring and repetitive. To wit: since its writing in the early 1980's, women's condition has gone exactly in the opposite direction from Atwood's "premonition".
Obviously, the futurology capacities of Margaret Atwood are not those of, say Arthur Clarke: she even ends the novel with a 22nd century academic conference on the text of the Handmaid's Tale, assuming that those types of supposedly intellectual exchanges, the sick extrusion of the <publish or perish> world of the hollowed minds of academia invented in the second half of the 20th century will survive two centuries...Is this the fantastic dystopian novel it is purported to be? An excellent novel, well worth the time.
Perhaps not as brilliantly conceived as 1Q84, but excellent nevertheless.

Not really a guide. From the title and the description, one would expect a how to book. It is not. It doesn't even have a few figures to show how to do things.
Don't bother with it if you have an older house that you would like to renovate.

If Hardy's novel is rather verbose for a 21st Century reader, the film is only understandable after reading it. The adaptation, while trying to be quite literal, particularly in the dialogues, lacks coherence because the long explanations of the novel are not there. Thus for instance, several commenters had problems with the scene of the sheep going over the cliff, which the book clearly if rather too much at length explains.
While the acting, the scenery and the photography made the movie, the editing of the scenes is choppy, most likely because of the need to keep the film not too long. It would have gained by making it 3 hours long, or even a mini-series.If Hardy's novel is rather verbose for a 21st Century reader, the film is only understandable after reading it. Maybe the worst book on Tuscany I ever started to read. (Full disclosure: I hold a PhD on a Tuscan subject, lived over a year there and speak native-level Italian).
The author does not even speak Italian, and misses most everything that any hidden Tuscany lover would put up high in the list, just giving a list of his haphazard wanderings, where he choses minor points over outstanding lesser known ones. One example: he mentions Calci, where he was "chewing on soft local bread I picked up in a tiny market... along with slices of local salami..." etc., etc., but ignores the wonderful former Carthusian monastery, now the Museum of Natural History and of the Territory of the University of Pisa located... in Calci.Maybe the worst book on Tuscany I ever started to read. It is a valuable contribution to the ongoing end of life arguments.
But it is from a very traditional physician's point of view: drugs for pain, chemotherapy and surgery for cancer and heart failures. It does not add to the right to end life discussions and legislation in Canada and/or some USA states, not to mention the right to active end of life as in Switzerland or the Netherlands, to mention just two jurisdictions. Nor does it mention alternative palliative/pain care: morphine is acceptable, how about marijuana?
Still, a recommended reading/listening, as it shows where the mainstream medical establishment is going on the issue. And to prepare yourself if you do not intend to follow that path.It is a valuable contribution to the ongoing end of life arguments.
