I read this because I've read other John Green books and I loved them (Looking for Alaska, The Fault in Our Stars) and yes, it's well written and captivating, but it's not as good as some of his other books. still a recommended read though!

we had to read this for school and personally, i can't stand dystopian books like the hunger games and divergent (maybe this makes me sound like I'm not a teen in 2013, but I am ok). when I started reading this, it actually freaked me out so much. the fact that they see in black and white, they don't hear music, they are watched 24/7, that they don't feel pain and especially what 'release' means! it's inhuman and they're all like robots. at the same time, I felt sympathetic towards Jonas and everyone of the community because they don't know any different, but this is definitely something I would never read again even if someone paid me. don't get me wrong, the writing and everything was amazing, but the idea and especially the ending sucked. maybe it's just me, but I like books about normal people in our normal world.we had to read this for school and personally, i can't stand dystopian books like the hunger games and divergent (maybe this makes me sound like I'm not a teen in 2013, but I am ok). when I started reading this, it actually freaked me out so much.…

We read this in English class this year and I loved it! I thought the characters were really well defined and the whole plot and everything was well managed and held together. It's amazing to think a 16 year old wrote this book! My favorite character was probably Dally because of the way he talks and acts. He's definitely not a nice person, but the fact that he cares so much for Johnny and he wants the best for him. Underneath all the toughness, he's a really nice boy, and it's a shame that he died at the end. But I guess he couldn't take Johnny's death like the rest of the boys took it. This book is all about friendship and being there for the people you care about and hardships of being a teenager back in the 1960's - '70's. I definitely recommend this book - for kids starting grade 7 and up!We read this in English class this year and I loved it! I don't really read YA books, but Cassandra Clare's are really captivating and enjoyable. You can tell they're thoroughly thought out and a lot of feeling is put in the writing. I've read The Mortal Instruments as well as The Infernal Devices and I have to say I like this series better. There's a very fine line there but I found The Infernal Devices better than her first series. I love Will and Tessa and I'm really happy that they're together in the end but what really just shattered me was the epilogue. I loved all the characters and especially Jem and I hated how he became a Silent Brother. I wish that they'd just found a cure and he realized that Tessa and Will were in love and gave them his blessing or something. Another thing I couldn't stand was that Tessa was immortal and that she and Will didn't really grow old together but that she stayed young. And then at the end when Jem comes to her on Blackfriers Bridge and he's not a Silent Brother anymore and they kiss and he doesn't go back to being a Shadowhunter and plans to stay with her. That whole idea gave me a bad feeling at the end.
I love Cassandra Clare's books and this series especially - I can't wait till City of Heavenly Fire comes out!I don't really read YA books, but Cassandra Clare's are really captivating and enjoyable. This book was amazing! I wanted to read it because of Baz Luhrmann's movie at first, and I'm glad I did. I thought that anything written before 1980 was boring and difficult to read, but when I got Gatsby, I realized what a small book it was. So I started reading and really got into it. I realized Jay Gatsby represents America in the 1920's. He's glamorous, rich, but no one really knows who he is. At the end of the book, Jay dies, just as America went into the Great Depression in the '30's. Although nothing major happens in the book, no major plot or anything, in the end the whole story is wrapped up and complete. It's disappointing that Gatsby and Daisy couldn't be together and I found it very sad how only two people came to his funeral. Also, I thought that the characters in it were weak. They were voiceless and they didn't take control. But I don't really mind that because these characters were almost like real people - not idealistic like a lot of characters in books. Their personalities and character traits were extreme, but the way they thought and acted were just like the thoughts and actions of regular people. The only thing I found really awkward was that the story was told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, Gatsby's next door neighbor and Daisy's second cousin. But then I realized that Nick became Gatsby's best friend. Gatsby was a really lonely man - he had everything he wanted but he was really lonely - and I think that Nick was good for him. And at the end when Nick was the one who tried to get people to come to Gatsby's funeral, I mean, that's what a real friend does. So yeah, I was really satisfied with this book and I definitely tag it with 'must-read' - not only because it's one of the greatest books of the 20th century, but because it's really a GOOD BOOK!This book was amazing! This is definitely a book I recommend! I'm 14 and just starting high school in September, and even though this book is set in 1991, I feel sort of prepared after reading it. The events that happen aren't far from reality, which I really like because lots of books for teens nowadays are really innocent and barely touch on important factors of growing up like Perks does. Definitely not for all ages though - don't read it before you're 13. Not because It's 'inappropriate' but because you won't get it. It's a quick read and it's funny as well as touching. I was satisfied with the ending, although I usually hate 'goodbye endings'. So yeah, I really think it was a great book. This is definitely a book I recommend!
