Perhaps not quite on the same level as Tolkien, but damn close. The Sword in the Stone is fun and amusing and everyone likes it. The other three grow progressively darker. But they are great books.

I really didn’t care for it. The story was interesting, but then the writer would go off on tangents for pages or even chapters that had no relevance. I actually stopped reading it and then picked it up and forced myself to finish it. I…

The first part, The Sword in the Stone, was wonderful and I enjoyed it. Great writing, very imaginative, and sometimes quite funny. However, I stopped reading after the first chapter of the second part, the Witch in the Wood. It starts off…

The praise is well deserved. I did almost give up a couple of times because so many words are unfamiliar to me and it was a tough read, but I stuck with it through 700+ pages. Best was the section on Lancelot and his conflicting loves:…

One of the greatest stories ever told chronicling the life of Arthur Pendragon, son of Uther Pendragon, the first true king of Briton. While this is an adaptation of the original legend, it is held as one of the best. If you have ever seen…

Loved this book when I read it as a teen. Enchanting and fun.

I've always loved this book as it makes good points for both the past and the current history. Some of the story is shown in humor - and that is truly needed.

It's not always easy to tell the difference between the typos and the cockney in the 2013 version. It looks like someone hired the fastest but not most accurate typist available, and published to make a quick buck without even glancing at…

I greatly enjoyed The Sword in the Stone when I read this book, but my interest waned after that. I thought that the gradual progression of the intensity and scope was very well done, but the humor became less frequent when it could have…

“The Once and Future King is full of insights, scenes and flourishes that are really quite astonishing.”—The Guardian (U.K.)

I have to say writing a review about this series is a bit difficult. I have been taken through a whole series of thoughts, ideas, emotions, and ideas. From childish to quite deep and complex issues. This series covers so much territory, it…

The summary is confusing. They mention a complete saga of 5 books, none of which have this title. Am I to think that this is a summary of those 5 in 1? Or, that this title precedes or maybe follows the saga? Anyone know? Looking forward to…

An excellent book well written and shows parallels between the modern and medieval worlds. However, is it a large book so you'd better pace yourself

My favorite for the last 35 years. Packed with philosophy masquerading as fantasy. Very well-written with rich language.

Unbelievably brilliant. A definite must-read fantasy classic on the story of King Arthur.

The penultimate Arthurian adaptation. There's nothing else to say. The source of all modern American fantasy. Every time you read it, you find something new.

Why does Clearbrook Library have a catalogue # of SCI FIC for this Arthurian Legend adaptation?

It's funny. The backwards-living Merlin sheds light onto how similar the modern world is compared to the Middle Ages, even as we claim how far we have come as a civilization. The good that both Lancelot and Arthur strives for and the…

This wonderful telling of the legend of Arthur stretches from his birth to the end of his reign. Having its roots planted firmly in Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte Darthur, this novel is a timeless adventure in which I discover some fresh…
