The Godfather (1972) meets The Departed (2006) in this noir classic (1990). The Coen brothers clearly borrowed from Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese clearly borrowed from the Coen brothers in their respective films. For this film,…

This #neonoir is possibly the most impressive motion picture I have seen in a very long time. I’m going to watch it again tomorrow night. This is due to the plot being so carefully structured that if you miss anything, much will not be…

Great film noir (still stands up after 30 years). Superb acting across the board and some of the best dialogue since Sam Spade. Bonus marks for the excellent sound track.

One of my favourite 'little gem' movies which resides on that shelf in my own movie collection alongside the likes of In Bruges, Waking Ned Divine, or, indeed, another Coen brothers title, Fargo; that Roger Ebert, I think, once called…

A typical Coen movie, but not one of their best. Took a while to see where it was going but ending was good. Never saw a one person bet beat up so many times without having any cuts or bruises on his face.

This 1930s gangster film from the Coen brothers is so rich that the first time I watched it I immediately clicked back to the beginning and watched the whole thing over again. Gabriel Byrne is the brilliant strategist so cool under…

Good, sometimes very good, but it is Turturro's performance alone that gives the film substance. Astounding performance.

Cunningly contrived - maybe too cunning. More than one viewer has ended up like Verna, " I don't understand. I don't care!" But if you like puzzles - the more intricate, the better - this is for you. It's rich in manipulations,…

The third Cohen Bro's film after Blood Simple 1984 and Raising Arizona 1987 on the central characters in a deadly gang war. Enjoyed the story, actions and performance of actors except that of Marcia Harden who played an unconvincing…

Miller's Crossing, 1990, is a loser production from the Coen brothers, written by both of them, produced by one and directed by the other one. It is 115 minutes of tediousness that never delivers. Its' budget was $14 million but the…

As the film progressed, attitude, language, and suits were similar to that of the 30’s and 40’s crime films based on novels written by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler and the “comic” exaggerated violence seemed to be similar to that…

Quick-witted dialogue and tommy gun bullets fly in equal share, and mob boss Albert Finney commands a hilarious scene of pre-bedtime destruction after a couple of hitmen sneak into his house. Read more at:…

The acting is supurb, the "Danny Boy" scene is worth the watch on its own, but the film itself sort of rambles off. The look of the film and the music is also amazing.

Not the Coens best but once again annoying cult fans have to shout to the skies how great it is with their reviews. The Coens are great filmmakers. That doesn't mean every one of their films has to be great.

One of those underrated gangster movies that not a lot of people have heard of. Good acting and writing. Some really memorable scenes. John Turturro's really stands out.

Amazing movie. The Coen Brothers are consistently excellent with each of their films. John Turturro's acting in the forest scene is ridiculously good.
