For lovers of tall tales! Why did Dad take so long to come home from the store with the milk? Well, it starts and ends with an alien spaceship, with lots of twists and turns in-between. The illustrations make the story even MORE fantastic!

A good way to introduce chapter books to younger readers, this novel is funny and still has pictures to help you along with the story. There is the repetitiveness of early readers to keep kids interested and if a parent is reading aloud…

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the young--and for older people who never lost their love of the silly and absurd. The audiobook, narrated by Gaiman himself, is sublime. Perfect pick for a one-hour family road trip.
Great little read! A father needs to go and get milk and is gone for a long time. The tale he tells his children to explain is absence is quite long winded and slightly a sci-fi. Even better as the children are having a hard time…

A brief children’s comic novel by the multi-award winning Gaiman. This is essentially a science fiction version of a tall tale. Children tell their father they are out of milk so he goes to the store. It’s a long time before he returns,…

My son and I love this book. He often wants to listen to it when we are going for even a short stint in the car. Super fun, silly and touching all at once.

Great fun made even better by the author's own reading on the audiobook. The short story - it's only one CD - plus the frenetic yarn make it a great one to listen to, even on short errands.
This is funny, in a ridiculous sort of way. Time traveling dinosaurs, pirates, aliens, a sentient volcano, wumpires and milk are play a role in this book.
Interest level: ages 5-10. On his way home from buying milk, Dad is abducted by aliens, battles a fierce Pirate Queen, hitches a ride with a time-travelling dinosaur, and saves the universe—or does he really? A whimsical tall tale with…
