Probationary Constable Peter Grant dreams of being a detective in London's Metropolitan Police. Too bad his superior plans to assign him to the Case Progression Unit, where the biggest threat he'll face is a paper cut. But Peter's prospects change in the aftermath of a puzzling murder, when he gains exclusive information from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost. Peter's ability to speak with the lingering dead brings him to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny. Now, as a wave of brutal and bizarre murders engulfs the city, Peter is plunged into a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic.

Fun, British, urban fantasy. Loved the river Thames and her family.

Very funny, fast paced supernatural mystery. Very enjoyable and a fast read. Looking forward to the second book by Aaronovitch.

New cop PC Grant joins a special division for dealing with the "Otherside" of London.

PC Grant has finished his training period and is looking at a career in the paperwork division. In his last street assignment he interviews a witness to a murder who turns out to be a 200-year old ghost. Think Rookie Blue meets the X-Files in London, England.

PC Grant goes to a murder scene and interviews a witness. When he asks the witness to come to the precinct and give a statement the man says he can't leave the spot where he was buried. Interviewing ghosts becomes all in a day's work for Peter Grant.

This is the first in an excellent mystery/fantasy about a London detective-constable who is also an apprentice wizard. If you like Jim Butcher, read Aaronovitch.
