This is a great book for ages 8-12 to read! It's well written and entertaining enough to keep an adult's interest as well.

I heard about this book on a radio review. It's just delightful. The language is beautiful and very descriptive. I love the adventurous spirits of the quirky main characters. It would make a wonderful film. My granddaughter is just the right age to read it and she enjoyed it too

Beautifully written.

"When scholar Charles Maxim discovers baby Sophie floating in a cello case among the remains of a shipwreck, he decides to keep her, and the two of them form an unconventional but loving family. Once Sophie is 12 years old, they follow the clues from the cello case to Paris, where spirited orphan Matteo and his roof-dwelling friends help Sophie in the search for her long-lost mother. If you're spellbound by Rooftoppers' breathless adventure and lyrical portrayal of 1890s Paris, you'll savour the mysterious atmosphere of Venice in Cornelia Funke's The Thief Lord."
