CRRL Kids: It's Elementary! Geometry for Grade School Students
Annotation:When the public library offers a prize for figuring out how a "book monster" sculpture was fit in through a small window in their Reader's Corner, the students of Sifu Faiza's Kung Fu School use geometry to solve the mystery.
Annotation:"Mathematics comes alive with Circles, a comic, full-color activity book. By playing with a flying disk, a geodesic dome, psychedelic designs, and more, kids teach themselves such concepts as pi, ellipses, and parabolas. Circles reveals the geometry of life in mazes, magic, pinwheels, pickles, and more."
Annotation:Mayor Lostis Marbles is back again and looking for more help in solving his problems. But now the superhero and problem solver is the fifteen-year-old, skateboard-riding Kent Clark, also known as Edge Master. The villains are the Shiftless gang, led by Shiftless Shereé, a mysterious woman with long, red fingernails, and her brother Ambrose Addemup. In a series of fictional episodes, Edge Master helps the hapless mayor solve problems involving angles, polygons, trinagles, quadrilaterals, squares, prisms, and pyramids. He also demonstrates how to calculate the volume of solid objects.
Annotation:"Inside Groovy Geometry, you’ll find all the geometry basics, plus information on how to figure out the height of any object from its shadow, find distances "as the crow flies," estimate the area of any space, and much more. While you play the Name Game and Rectangle Race, you’ll learn how to draw, measure, and identify different kinds of angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals. And with fun activities like Bull’s Eye and Pizza Party, you’ll practice plotting coordinate points on a graph and measuring the area and diameter of a circle. Most important, you’ll have a great time doing it!" Part of the Magical Math series.
Annotation:Introduces lines, angles, triangles, squares, polygons, circles, planes, area, and surface area.
Annotation:When the Zills family is summoned to Egypt to help find the hidden burial site of an ancient pharaoh, Matt and Bibi are locked into an adventure they did not expect. Stuck inside a pyramid with only each other, their dog Riley, and geometric hieroglyphics to help them find their way, the twins must use their math knowledge to solve the riddles on the walls and locate the burial chamber. Luckily, the two know their stuff when it comes to geometric solids.
Annotation:Provides instructions for creating astronomy-themed paper projects, including different types of stars, a space station, and a martian.
Annotation:Presents experiments demonstrating properties of circles and loops made of cloth, paper, and string. Part of the series, Simple Science Experiments.
Annotation:Sir Cumference, Radius, and Sir Vertex search for Edgecalibur, the sword that King Arthur has hidden in a geometric solid. Part of a series.
Annotation:Help Robot Guy shoot down alien space ships by knowing every angle: obtuse, right, and acute.
Annotation:Dr. Math explains terms in geometry: types of angles, area and perimeter, polygons, geometric formulae, area and volume, spheres, and surface area. Questions to Dr. Math are answered by math students at colleges throughout the country.
Annotation:Links to flash cards, interactive geometry, online pattern blocks, java games with angles, and other math activities.
Annotation:CRRL patrons (grades 4 to 12) can get free help from skilled teachers at tutor.com. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 3 pm to 10 pm.
