2024 Strong Men and Women of Virginia Poster Exhibit

All Day
Porter Branch

Each year, the Library of Virginia honors distinguished African American leaders, past and present, who are chosen based on their contributions to the state, the nation, or their professions.

These men and women offer powerful examples of individuals who refused to be defined by their circumstances. Their biographies are a testament to the determination and perseverance displayed by extraordinary people during challenging times. These individuals demonstrate how African Americans have actively campaigned through education and advocacy for better lives for themselves, their people, and all Americans. It is these many contributions that the Strong Men and Women in Virginia History program seeks to recognize and share.

The honorees for 2024 are:

Erma L. Freeman, Mecklenburg County, Dentist

R. Tyrone Foster, Bristol, Sheriff and Community Leader

Gregory L. Robinson, Manassas, NASA Project Director

Captain Janet H. Days, Norfolk, Navy Commanding Officer

This traveling poster exhibition from the Library of Virginia is made possible with support from Dominion Energy.
