Crossroads of Conflict: The Civil War in Culpeper County and the Creation of Culpeper National Cemetery

Presented by Jeff Joyce and the Stafford County Historical Society. The first part of this lecture is an overview of how the Civil War impacted Culpeper County, which includes two major battles: Cedar Mountain and Brandy Station, along with the Army of the Potomac winter encampment from 1863-1864. The second part discusses the establishment of the Culpeper National Cemetery after the war and the stories of several Civil War soldiers buried there.

Jeff Joyce is an Air Force veteran and retired defense contractor. He is a volunteer historian at the Culpeper National Cemetery along with being a Docent at the National Air and Space Museum, a volunteer with the Honor Flight program, a battlefield guide at Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park, and a member of the history team at Manassas National Battlefield.
