Book Description
Dark Prairie is a historical fiction novel. After the Civil War, in South Carolina and Texas, four Black men and one Black woman take different paths towards justice, legend, mercy, peace, and blood. The focal characters are John Ware-a gentle giant with a quiet soul; Mary Fields, a fierce and true western woman; Nat Love, a fast-talking gunman; Bass Reeves, an illiterate law man; and Cherokee Bill, born into violence and becomes it. Behind them all is Wallace Chauncey, fueled by rage.
Author Bio
Lonesome B. Augustine writes stories that punch through myth and dig deep into the blood and grit of American history. A lifelong student of the forgotten and the overlooked, Augustine brings to life the true west--where freedom wasn't free and justice was earned with grit, guts, and a gun. Dark Prairie is his second novel, inspired by real-life legends.
