Enraged. Seething. Disgusted. I experience all of these reading this book. Nothing like reading about people dehumanizing their fellow man in the name of God to get the blood boiling. I liked the creative ways the author chose to tell his…

Maybe I'm just a sucker for historical novels that include a modern scenario but I found myself unable to put this 500+ page novel down.

I found this book hard to read at first. I understood that the author was telling Ann Eliza's story in the 1800's and Jordan's story in the present. Both stories tell of the effects of polygamy on the women and children. Jordan was…

I had to get married to sleep with her, but then I realized that she wasn't right for me, but I can't divorce, but I'm allowed to get married again, so I'll just keep trying until I find the right one, but what happens when I do?

Another book club read, and well, the first 100 pages were awesome. I was completely engaged. The plot line switches back and forth between the historical fiction story of the 19th wife/the full history of Mormonism, and a current day…

An interesting read but also difficult. The story goes back and forth in time and is about several groups of people. At times it reads like a history text book, at other times a murder mystery, and also the journal of a jaded young man.…

Entertaining & though provoking. We’ve got the same story playing out right here in Bountiful, BC. I’ve read a few books on polygamy, I like that this one focuses on how nasty this religion is for boys as well as women. Although I…

This story was interesting for anyone addicted to "Sister Wives". Otherwise, skip it. It should have ended 250 pages sooner than it did.

A big book, this tome digs into the history of the Mormon Church while at the same time follows the story of Jordan who seeks the truth regarding the supposed murder of his father by his mother – the 19th wife. Well written and crafted if…

Parts of this were unbearably dreary and tedious, but overall I liked it.

If you enjoy watching Big Love you will enjoy this book. It talks about people and places that sound so familiar.

The only well written parts in this novel were the purported excerpts from Ann Eliza Young's own book "Wife no.19" published in 1876. The secondary, fictional story seemed like something submitted to a middle school writing club. His…

So addicting. I literally could not put this book down. I loved it. It was a little strange and a little shocking at times, but the Who-Dun-It mystery keeps you entralled. The author wraps everything up neatly and leaves you with a…

It is a really interesting book. As with the other readers who posted comments, I learned a lot about polygamy from both (male and female) perspectives. It was also interesting to see how men who were initially not supporters of polygamy…

Two interesting stories - one fictional account of Eliza Ann Young, the 19th wife of Brigham Young (or should I say 52nd?) and one a modern murder mystery. The writer did a good job. Learned a great deal about polygamy and the negative…

An excellent read! I was amazed by the amount of research done by David Ebershoff and the intriguing way he wove the stories together. Fact? Fiction? He makes it clear in the interview included at the end of the paperback.

I thought the three stories was interesting and thought that once I got accustomed to it, it was easy to follow. Really interesting book, and, though slow at the beggining, it turns into quite the page turner. I'd defintetly reccommend…

It was very good, but the intertwining of 3 story lines with 3 writing styles didn't work for me. There were so many voices in each story that it was distracting. It wasn't totally clear to me what was fact & what was fiction
