This book is unusual to say the least. Jakob Walter, the author, wrote this book in German sometimes after the Napoleonic Wars.
As a youth of 18 hes was inducted into the army of his native Wuertemberg in south western Germany. Wuertemberg was one of many German states forced into a pro-French coalition by Napoleon.
The book, a first hand narritive, and one of only a few written by enlisted men of the time, described what happened to him during the end-phase of the Napoleonic War. Walter participated in the march ro Moscow that was defeated by General Winter. If you want to know what conditions were like this is an extremely useful resource.
