I enjoy this book because of the beautiful drawings and the moral of helping your neighbor in spite of prejudice.
One of my favourite picture books of all time, which I always read to my older students. As with The Stranger, another of Van Allsburg's books, a lot of inference and making connections to details throughout the story are needed, and the gorgeous drawings give important details that are not explained in the text. I love reading these books, even as an adult!
So so story , a mysterious kind of story and good pictures.
Not a favorite by any means though.
