This semi-historical transcription of a Native American’s impassioned injunction to preserve the land is accompanied by some of the most gorgeous illustrations I’ve ever seen. Men, women, children, horses, eagles, deer and wolves seem to step, gallop, soar and stalk from the page. It’s one of the most moving entreaties a child will ever read about preserving nature. You want to cry at what has been lost from America—and hold your breath in the hope that it might be regained.
