After 34 yrs, I'm still listening to this album when I want to chill out. It's not lyrically complex, but it is such a lush delivery that it'll pull you right in. Supposedly, this album created strife between Ferry and the rest, as most liked the direction and the relative accessibility of Avalon. It may have led to the split, but Ferry then tried to duplicate the formula with less consistent results in a couple following solo efforts.
One of the great albums of the 1980s. At the time it, and its predecessor album Flesh + Blood sounded like nothing else. Too bad that Bryan Ferry has been making this same album with slight variations ever since.
Avalon includes the evocative More Than This, one of my favourite songs. Perfect for rainy afternoons or a drive through the countryside on an autumn afternoon.
One of my favourite all-time albums. Have bought it on vinyl, cassette tape and compact disc over the years. A truly classic work of art and it never gets old.
