Louisiana Purchase is a fun and fierce look at the way politics and politicians sometimes spin out of control and into the headlines. Never say die: A misdiagnosis of a month to live sends Bob Hope into Martha Raye's arms.

VERY GOOD set of two early Bob Hope films.
1) Louisiana Purchase - 1941, interesting film adaptation of the theater musical of the same name. There was a lot of political chicanery behind the acquisition of the territory of Louisiana by the United States from France in 1803. The film does include the corruption tensions between the Republican and Democratic parties which may explain why the film somewhat 'disappeared' and has previously not been DVD'd.
It was particularly fun for me to discover beautiful Dona Drake who plays one of the Louisiana showgirls in a small part. Dona later became Rio Rita and led an all girl jazz orchestra.
2) Never Say Die - 1939 romantic comedy film starring Martha Raye and Bob Hope. When test results get mixed up, multi-millionaire hypochondriac John Kidley (Bob Hope) is told that he only has a month to live. He dumps his fiancee, Juno Marko (Gale Sondergaard), and heads for the Swiss spa of Bad Gaswasser, where he meets a young Texas heiress, Mickey Hawkins (Martha Raye). This was entertaining comedy and I always enjoy the film style of Martha Raye.
