This movie follows the mystery of the “matrix”, a mysterious phenomenon that could reveal the true meaning of life and the world. Neo believes that a very dangerous man by the name of Morpheus could tell him the meaning behind the matrix, however, they must fight a very intense battle in order to uncover the truth in the underworld. This movie showcases the wonders of science fiction and what it is like to have many brilliant and intelligent characters in one film. I would rate this well known movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who has an interest in science and uncovering the truth. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Really, really stupid. It contradicts itself constantly, while holding off the incredibly obvious (re: the characters own stated knowledge) until the end. Duh. Also, everything (at least to me) seemed absurdly predictable. (e.g. knowing the "Oracle" lied -about 2 things-, where the "Agents" would pop up during chases, etc., etc.) The more things change, the more they stay the same: the format for the fight scenes, the gun battles, the old style western quick draw (LOL!), etc. Maybe in 1999 some people were wowed by certain effects, but I don't rate that carrying an entire movie. However, the real disturbing thing is the level of insidious social engineering Follywood was doing, 20 years ago. It's very blatant now, and yes, they've been at it a long time, but I'm thinking of an entire generation that's now grown up with an overwhelming amount of certain social constructs as norms. There are many of them in this film, that support the problems we have in the world now, in 2018.

Released in 1999, but this incredibly stylish film doesn't look or feel dated, so that's a real testimony to the craftsmanship and eye for detail of the artistic decision-makers on the crew. The performances are almost uniformly excellent, with the sole exception being Lawrence Fishburne's annoying decision move and speak in a strangely slow, overly deliberate manner. (Dial it down, Larry.) Clever premise, great execution, It's absolutely superb sci-fi.

I certainly can't argue, or complain (and I won't), about the absolute visual excellence of The Matrix. It wouldn't make any sense to even try..... But when it comes to the story (which I found to be far too long) - The Matrix is, most definitely, open to some reasonable argument and dissection.

For example - In regards to the beliefs and decisions made by The Legendary Morpheus - It totally baffled me that Morpheus never even once suspected that The Oracle was, in fact, nothing more than just another program from the Machine Room.... Did he really think that she was, in actuality, a "real", bona-fide Oracle?

When you seriously consider the fact that Morpheus knew a great deal more, than most, about the workings of The Matrix, his gullibility toward The Oracle, and her blathering, was truly unbelievable. All of The Oracle's very questionable fortune-telling/predictions were taken by Morpheus at literal face value. He never even bothered to thoroughly investigate who, or what, she really was.

And, yeah - OK - The Oracle never did do Morpheus and his crew any wrong. But, all the same, she was not one of them. How could she have ever been completely trusted not to double-cross them?.... Remember - The Matrix was chock full of glitches.

The following utterance is an "Agent Smith" quote taken directly from The Matrix.... After reading it through - Ask yourself if you think that this quote was, in fact, the Wachowski kids' (Yep. That's Lana & Lilly) contemptuously telling their audience exactly what they thought of them..... Uh?.... Need I say more?

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals...... Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area...... There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."

Well, what do you think??.... Pretty hateful and cynical stuff, eh?

Morpheus: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.
