"John Jarndyce is an unwilling party in Jarndyce and Jarndyce, guardian of Richard, Ada, and Esther, and owner of Bleak House. Vladimir Nabokov called him "one of the best and kindest human beings ever described in a novel"."
A wonderful film full of Dickensian characters. The actors are superbly cast and the acting is exquisite. A brilliant British period piece.

Really well done. Maybe a bit too ominous at times, but overall not bad. Was anyone else annoyed with Esther's hairstyling choices?

Jan 15 2016, Finally got around to watching this and enjoyed it. Might watch it again one day on a snowy weekend. I didn't catch on that Lady Dedlock was Scully until about 1/2 way through. Then I was floored, and fascinated!

Really enjoyed this story. Havent read the bookbut maybe will someday. Only reason I took half a star off was the filming was a bit dark &, at times, too close to see the surroundings which I felt dampered the feeling of how things were in that era.

Highly commended! It wasn't exactly what I expected. It was more. Great mystery movie!

Arguably the greatest mystery novel ever written, the movie does great credit to the book, but there is nothing like the book...a must read.

This adaptation is amazing. Gillian Anderson is one of those amazing actresses who is believable as an American detective, a 19th centurty artistocrat, or a Northern Irish detective. Also really enjoyed Anna Maxwell Martin and have been seeking out everything she's been in.

I've never been able to get into a novel by Dickens, but after seeing this production I'd want to give it another try.

As is usual for them, the BBC has produced an exciting and beautifully-acted version of Dickens' writing. They've updated the plot-line slightly, by keeping the story moving more quickly than it does in the book, but the quirky, odd-ball characters and the Victorian-era manners and class-system which Dickens is known for are all there. It's great. We both loved this. It's top drawer quality.
