I liked the story about the girl and the horse, but am not a fan of love stories centered around adultery (old fashioned, I guess). And the ending - so ironic and tragic and...not really believable, IMO. I just don't believe the characters would have reacted the way they did in this story to their situation. I don't want to put in any spoilers, just suffice it to say I find a book more enjoyable if it's believable - YMMV. A good read nonetheless.

The book sucks you right in, and in many aspects it is far deeper than the movie. I think the movie tried to picture Tom more of a macho cowboy than he is in the book. I also loved underlying stories and character evolvement described in the book. Sometimes, though, Annie is shown too much of a damsel in distress, with her many strengths minimized. Her weeping over her unborn babies especially irked me.

I liked it better than the movie - the ending is different.
