VERY GOOD 1956 big production film with plot involving farming Quakers in Indiana during the Civil War. There were high quality actors/actresses in all the parts (like Gary Cooper as the Quaker family father). Well directed by William Wyler, it kept me engaged. Although I couldn't relate much to all the Quaker aspects, the other myriad flavors and conflicts of that time and place did. And Samantha the Goose was a terrific, um, character.

Beautiful movie belongs to Hollywood before it went for the weired and obnoxious. Acting is simple, talented and convincing. The top performance prize goes to Samantha the goose.

Silly, slow, and boring. I quit after 30 minutes.

A classic ! After all these years it really holds up well for a second viewing ! This film was my first introduction to these strange people called 'Quakers',.. and an alternative idea to the John Wayne version as to the nature of courage.
