Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close-knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy's closest friends for what will be revealed.--From publisher description.

A quick, easy read. Interesting enough to keep me reading, nothing spectacular, but entertaining for a weekend read.

A great summer read, both funny and sad.

I really loved this story. A little confusing at first getting into the characters but once the story got going I couldn't put it down. This was my 3rd Elin Hilderbrand book and am looking forward to reading the rest of her writing as I have enjoyed reading all of them so far.

My second Elin Hilderbrand book. An enjoyable light summer read about love, romance, mystery, betrayal, and questions. Why did this couple drowned? Was it an accident?

The four popular couples on Naturcket called themselves the Castaways because they take trips together. When one couple tragically drowned at the beginning of the story, the friends and their trials and tribulations were described so well that I felt like I was there with them at the favourite restaurant, the Begonia, or on the beach. Each friend has a story to tell, a bare it all that accumulate into a surprising ending.. A nice little story.

I expected a fluffy novel about a group of rich friends and their lives but instead found it to be a very engaging story about how a tragedy unravels the lives of 8 friends and the truth comes out.

A married couple in this group die in a boating accident and the aftermath is told by each of the surviving friends in their attempt to deal with the tragedy. The characters are well developed and the complexity of their lives is revealed as the novel progresses.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the depth of emotion and the weaving of their lives and feelings.

I really enjoyed this book. It was my first by Hilderbrand and I will definitely be checking out other books written by her. I thought that the characters were well defined and realistic and that their relationships were intricate and layered, like real group friendships. I thought that the individual stories wove together in an effetive way to provide the whole picture. My only wish is that I was on the beach on the east coast while reading this!

I loved this book. I haven't read Elin Hilderbrand before but I will definitely be seeking out her other books. A story of 4 couples and how the 3 couples cope when tragedy strikes. So many layers to the relationships, a beautifully drawn character study.
