It was an accident. It was dark, it was raining, Alison had only had two drinks. And the other car ran the stop sign. But Alison finds herself trapped under the crushing weight of grief and guilt, feeling increasingly estranged from her husband Charlies, who has his own burdens.

I was disappointed in this book. After reading "Orphan Train", I purposely sought out this author's other writings. I gave this book a rating of 2 out of 5.

This story is about 2 couples who are friends. Even though they 'love' their spouses, 2 of these 4 people decide to 'be true' to themselves & have a lustful, adulterous relationship. This of course destroys friendships & marriages-one with 2 small children. The author tries to give the novel depth by giving the characters an education with the ability to quote philosophers & poetry. The author also does what filmmakers do to make crass movies - she unnecessarily inserts foul language & explicit sexual scenes into the narrative. It has an unrealistic 'all's well' ending. My personal rating for this type of novel is that it is well written trash. I regret the time wasted reading it, but all is well as I am glad that I didn't spend any money to do so.

A terrible accident calls into focus some family issues that have been left to fester just below the surface.
