"Rattle and Hum is the name of both an album and a companion motion picture recorded by Irish rock band U2. Both were released in 1988. The album, which was made following the band's 1987 Joshua Tree Tour, is a mix of live recordings, covers, and new songs. To a greater extent than their previous album, The Joshua Tree, the band explore roots rock and experiment with incorporating influences from blues-rock, folk rock, and country music into their music. The film documents the band's Joshua Tree Tour of the United States and the band's experiences with American music. Although the album and motion picture were intended to represent the band paying tribute to rock legends, critics said that U2 were trying to place themselves amongst the ranks of these artists"--Wikipedia.

I have never liked U2.

In their formative years they did record a number of good songs. But, overall, they are one band that it grossly over-rated.

It's especially U2's lead singer, Paul Hewson (aka, Bobo.... oops!.... I mean, Bozo.... oops!... I mean - Bono) who I find detestable.

*Note* - According to the "untainted one" below - "Everybody is a critic" - (Oh? Really!?) - (What a perfect way to undermine the comments of others) Except that remark doesn't apply to her (of course). No. She's the supreme authority on every subject - So you all better listen up 'cause her pompous rants are holy gospel (personally sanctioned by Saint "Bob").

To each is own. Everybody is a critic, however, for me this was one fine film, following U2, as they perform across the United States. It mixes b&w with colour footages of interviews, concerts, a recording session in Sun Studios and their tour of Graceland, Memphis Tennessee, among other sight seeing observations.
This film was recorded after their success of their 1987, Joshua Tree album, and prior to Bono's bug eyed shades, while South Africa still had Apartheid, and before B.B. King had died.
I find this to be a good capture of the bands live performances and compassion for human life.
This film contains 11 more songs that were not on the soundtrack, of the same name.

(Lyrics excerpt*) - "And, I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

You know - I have never much liked U2, the Irish, pop-rockers.

Someone once said to me - "Anyone who doesn't like U2 isn't human."..... Well, about all that I can say to that is - "Oh, yeah? And, like - The same to you, too!" (Ha! Get it? You, too - U2?... Uh... Never mind)

I mean, if that's really-really this person's narrow-minded, little attitude about U2, then I don't care one frickin' bit if I'm not considered "human" on account of my musical tastes. In my opinion, there's certainly a lot worse things to be called other than "not human". Don't you agree?

Now, don't get me wrong. There are actually a number of U2 tunes that I quite like. It's true. But, when seriously considering this particular rock band, I have to go along with my feelings and say that U2 and their song-writing abilities are far-far too over-rated for my liking.

And, it doesn't help matters much that I totally despise Bono, the posturing, preening lead vocalist in the band. Yeah. I cannot stand this vainglorious, little, strutting peacock with his 'less-than-exceptional' singing-voice.

Yep. Bono is the main reason behind my strong dislike of U2. He's such a snit. And, his real name is Paul David Hewson.

Killer. Tremendous selection of U2 classics from '88. I absolutely loved this DVD. FIVE STARS.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.

For any U2 lover, this will be a treasure! Even when I thought I could not love this band anymore, I have found myself further inspired by their creativity and accomplishments.

Riveting...enthralling ..from beginning to end!
