Definitely an inspiring and breath taking story to read. Especially for those interested in the neurology. Dr. Black has an incredible history of how it lead to his current position. Although it may seem that he has only faced success most of his life, his career as a brain surgeon I felt suppressed his urge to show off how intelligence, but rather to use it in a way to help others in confidence. I enjoyed reading about his encounters with different patients, it seems to me he is a strong and truly passionate individual in the study of brains. He values his job and his patient as if it's his own life. I believe when he says that his patients are the true hero, rather then the doctors themselves it is true. Although doctors are academically excelling, as the individual they are treating are going through much more then they ever have. It is inspiring to see these strong individuals face life with such strength, and something we should all learn. Something that will change our lives forever. If we all valued life to the fullest, life would be completely different now.

An inspiring story, but it felt like I was being lectured; much of the writing felt like bragging. I would have been happier if it focused more on the science than the man.

A wonderfully engrossing book, not only about the medical aspects of brain tumors and how they are treated, but also has autobiographical aspects. The story of a gifted child, and how his parents encouraged him, is also an interesting one.
