A great roller coaster ride, it goes like this, sad, happy, sad, happy. A great book!

"Jack and I watched the whole thing from the living room. I can still see Dad standing wobbly at the top of the stairs, cursing and mumbling that we were bleeding him dry. We were chains around his legs, and he was tired of working all day long o feed our grubby faces. Then Terry came out of his bedroom holding his stuffed bear and walked silently over to Dad's side. But Dad didn't see Terry. He was too busy ranting. He pulled off his belt to threaten us with it and, swinging his arm, accidentally hit Terry. Dad knocked Terry down the stairs. Not on purpose. But he did, and that's what killed my brother. It's why Dad stayed out later and later every night and came home drunker and meaner each time."
