Very entertaining book. The BBC series is very good too. Not quite as good as Game of Thrones but easier to read.

I enjoyed lords of the north. I'm enjoying the Saxon series. I'm now loyal to Uthred. May not be the best of the best but it is enjoyable & I'm looking forward number four.

Not Cornwell's best book (nor in my opinion his best series up this point), but I still ended up reading the last third in one session, frantically turning pages to find out who Uthred was going to hack to pieces next, which at the end of the day is what I tend to read Cornwell books for!

Another of Bernard Cornwell's exciting historical novels with lots of action and history - though for a change Cornwell wasn't closely bound to the details of battles and political events because there is very little known about the area and period of this action. If you have read the first 2 novels of this series you will recognize our arrogant but likeable hero who continues to struggle to overcome the results of his own actions.
