Interesting Characters---Interesting story and a strong message/statement on the swing to ultra right wing conservatism--in Britain under Thatcher in the 80's [all over the world really]-and it's negative effect on the middle class or below, still going on today. It's been quite a ride to the sewer for regular folks while the rich get ultra richer!

This is a British film that covers the Thatcher era when there was a feeling that the conservatives were taking over and destroying the UK. It is actually very relevant to what is going on in the US post 2008 market crash. The movie follows a working class family and how they interact with the changing world around them. The son and his girlfriend are underachievers; the daughter a wannabe social climber and the mother is struggling with her age. Some of the characters are a little over the top. The two wealthy neighbors seem to be ridiculously written as well as the daughter too, but this movie was written in the 1980s when that formula worked well. This is a good film and will remind you of an era that has come full circle.
