Great little book that reveals what police actually go thru to solve serious crime. Written very well--very amusingly--but--it demonstrates the "plod" of policework. So expect ploddish textbook-like parts. Great characters, feel of place, lovely sense of humor, realistic frustration of work and life, strong detail make it mostly very enjoyable.

Beautifully written translation by Alan Blair. Interesting plot and enjoyable police characters. Camaraderie and teamwork not so cohesive in this book as some by other authors. An all day read. Well worth the investment of time.

Book written in 1970 in the old European style. Meaning all psychological with no action. I'm not sure this would work today. It's not that it's foreign. I've read all three Millennium books. Books that were well written and kept the reader hooked for more that 2000 pages. Now this 200 page book couldn't held my attention for more than 50 pages. After that I just went numb and counted the pages for when it would all end. If you want a sleeper, this one is it.
