I had a hard time starting this in book form, so I decided to try the audiobook. I believe this book could have worked better as a novella, although I think the fantastic ending is earned in part to it's length. It is not an easy read, but it is easy to understand why it is considered such and important work.

The narrator is fantastic, maintaining different personalities and inflections for each of the characters in the large cast. Check it out. 4/5

I recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys satire, especially satire of military operations, formality, and the important things in life. The brand of humor may not be for everyone -- it reminded me of Men Who Stare At Goats or O Brother, Where Art Thou? It is very well written and superbly performed by Jay Sanders. The production quality on the CDs is very good; my only minor complaint is that the opening and closing music on each disc goes on for way too long.

This book repeats multiple parts of itself multiple times to the point of creating a huge urge in me to give up reading it. In fact, I'm not sure why I did read it all the way through.
Suddenly, with 30-50 pages to go to the end Heller turned it into one of the great books of the 20th century!
Stick with it. Yeah, it repeats and repeats way beyond what is necessary, but the events at the end make it worthwhile.

Wow I was so frustrated by the characters! I just wanted to slap half of them and just wake them up! I completely understand the phrase 'catch 22' now! Very unique book... everyone should read it at least once!
