The understated emotions create palpable tension, the characters, even the bad ones, are fully-fleshed and likeable in a complicated story where many strands are woven together in the end.

Some like to solve puzzles but I like to use my investigative powers on solving crime mysteries. Jo Nesbo, the Norwegian crime writer, creates a pyschologically mesmerizing world in his novel, The Devil's Star. From one moment to the next, you never know where Homicide Inspector Harry Hole of Oslo will lead you, or himself, for that matter. If you are afraid of the dark, better not pick up this story. But if you are addicted to suspense, along with unerringly fine writing, you will be enthralled with this noir tale.

Just as addicting as the other books! I absolutely love how well he writes and how encompassing the stories become. Highly recommend it!

On the cover of this book it says "The next Stieg Larsson". He is better that Stieg Larsson! I enjoy his writing!

Good, solid thriller with exciting plot twists. Once, just once, I would like to read or watch a police series without a dysfunctional protagonist.

I can see why this has been compared to Stieg Larsson... brutal crime, potential corruption which goes deep. This is intelligently written, with a translation that wasn't jarring.

"Oslo detective Harry Hole is a great character to follow in this dark, twisted, and intriguing story of a serial killer. This page-turner is a Scandinavian crime novel at its finest."--Suzanne Droppert, Liberty Bay Books, Poulsbo, Wash.

A satisfying crime novel. A complex plot, interesting and believable characterization and an unexpected murderer.
