Beware the French nanny.

Fantastic read! The book is slow to start, but the idea is to lull you into the type of complacency similar to Ellen's and then yank the rug out from under you. That isn't to say that you don't see any of it coming, but you just don't want to believe it will.

Characterization is a bit shallow. Louise is too bad and Ellen too good; however the story is still engrossing.

Reading a Dorothy Whipple novel is sheer bliss!
