Great locations, costumes and acting. Ian McKellen was outstanding as Chauvelin, the deceitful citizen responsible for arresting aristocrats and sending them, their wives and their children to the guillotine. IMHO, I would rate "The Scarlet Pimpernel" at 4.0 stars.

However, the swordfight with rapiers was unrealistic. The rapier is a stabbing weapon. You do not swing a rapier wildly to the side.

One of my favorite movies. Anthony Andrews is great along with the always beautiful Jane Seymour. Interesting to see Ian McKellen as the villain long before he played Magneto in the X-Men movies. Fun and entertaining!

OMG!!! This movie is AWESOME! I would suggest it to anyone who likes a bit of fun and humor along with some action and adventure. You are always surprised and pleased with the Scarlet Pimpernel's tricks and schemes. It's also good for many people because one of the best things about it is that it leaves out all bloodshed and only has mild violence that is not gross or gruesome. This is a great movie and I would watch it again and again.
