Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found and her beloved uncle is convinced she was murdered, and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced investigative journalist Mickael Blomkvist and the tattooed and troubled yet resourceful computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate--with troubling results.

Intense, I hadn't read anything about movie or plot and didn't realize it was so violent/sexual. I thought it was going to be straightforward action, turned out to be more of a thriller. I thought a little weird about the ages (she seemed much younger and thought he was going to be more of a father figure until...you know...). good action/mystery, I liked that she had strong but nuanced/atypical character

I love the movies of Stieg Larsson's trilogy!
Lisbeth Salander is a great character--truly complex, full of angst, a brilliant mind, and a relentless drive. For contemporary action thrillers, she rivals Jason Bourne but with real character development. The Dragon Tattoo trilogy has more mystery and involved plot development and less "action" per say. Noomi Rapace is dazzling as Lisbeth.
Superb!

This version was better than the american/british version.

The remake was a very good film and this is somewhat better. The plot is very good based on the now classic genre of: the tangled tale of contemporary researchers trying to solve a deep dark mystery (usually a crime) and (usually) from the past (Possession, The Real Jack the Ripper, etc come to mind but also films like 3rd Man, or Pelican Brief). Well done as it is, the film relies on the Girl for its unique impact and Noomi Rapace delivers on it.

Outstanding, and far, far superior to the cheesy and skeazy American/Brit version (Noomie Rapace, and the actor playing opposite her, can act, for gosh sakes!).

Suspenseful, ugly, story line(s) with an awe inspiring heroine.

Definitely better than the American remake.

Love this film. It was different from anything I had ever seen. Noomi Rapace was amazing. Didn't like or see the purpose of the English re-make.

An interseting story about a troubled women and a journalist whose relationship is not quite fully explained in the movie. The first movie of the series is the best with each subsequent movies each worse.

There was room for improvement in this one, but the original is worth seeing. By the end of the series, the room for improvement is enough to allow for an army of improvements. But you can see why it is someone thought to engage in a re-do.

Violence: At its core, this film is a murder mystery. There are graphic images of past murders and a few scenes of violence between the characters.

This was tremendous (although certainly the rape scene was difficult to view, and I admit to closing my eyes) and truly outshone the poorly written and acted American/British version. Noomie Raplace can act, and far superior to the actress that played in the English language version, I'm sad to say.
