A failed revolutionary attempt drives European Abel to seek refuge in the virgin forests of southwestern Venezuela. There, in the "green mansion" of the title, Abel encounters the wood-nymph Rima, the last survivor of a mysterious aboriginal race. The bird-girl's ethereal presence cativates him completely, but the love that flowers between them is soon blighted by cruelty and sorrow.

Beautiful writing, epic story...one of the Classics I absorbed as a kid through the agencies of Classics Illustrated Comic Books, and now one of the few Classics I have actually read in novel form! A wonderful, absorbing narrative even though I remembered the gist of the plot. I enjoyed it immensely!

A brilliant and beautiful tale of a man escaping a political coup in a South American Country by hiding in the tropical forest in a primeval Indian village. He comes across a girl/woman, the last of her species that lives in the forest protecting it and the animals from the local tribesmen. The story is of the relationship and the events that follow.
