Val meets Francie and her life begins to change. Francie has invested much of her life imbuing shoplifting with cosmic significance. Val and Francie go on a quest to find the Holy Grail of petty thievery, and it takes on emotional overtones, especially as Val’s brother starts to enter the terminal stages of an illness. A fast-paced read, at times more glossy and shiny like the objects that the girls steal than meaningful. Blonde jokes populate the novel periodically to underscore the meanspiritedness of these girls.
