Castle, the hit TV series, premiered in the US in March 2009 and has already been renewed for a second series. The main character, Richard Castle, is the bestselling mystery author of the critically acclaimed Derrick Storm novels. As he is paired up with the hardnosed but sexy Detective Kate Beckett, he finds inspiration for Nikki Heat, star of his next bestselling book - Heat Wave. Created in the same vein as the Murder, She Wrote books and television series, Heat Wave is truly a 21st century update to the TV/book crossover genre.

I love the show Castle, but this book is abysmal. I quit after two chapters.

Good lord, the author is embarrassingly enamoured of his protagonist. Like the name weren't cheesecake enough, she is poised, beautiful, a crack-shot, skilled at self-defense, universally respected, honest, compassionate.. etc. etc. And in order to play her up even more, she is surrounded by lack-wits. Including a TWO-time (because I guess winning one isn't impactful enough) Pulitzer winner that apparently has to learn research and relationships from her. It's ludicrous.
If you're looking for mindless time-pass, this is great if you can grit your teeth and get past the condescension Ms Heat displays to all.

I loved the show and thought I'd give one of the books a try. I could not put this book down! It was a great mystery, but it was also a great, funny and romantic story!

If you're looking for a Castle episode in book format, this book is for you. If, like me, you were hoping for a unique story, a great mystery, and something that isn't a cutesy re-hashing of a TV show, skip this one.

About what you would expect for a book based on a TV series....

I had to find a way to entertain myself since my beloved castle as gone off the air for the season and by lord this was the perfect way!! If your a castle fan you will enjoy the books. The writing isn't the best and there are spelling errors at points but overall a good read. I'd give the book 3 stars out of 5 and the tv show 5 out of 5!!!

This book was pretty good. It wasn't the best thing I've ever read, by far, but it was interesting and kept me guessing to the end. It was interesting how close to the reality of the TV show the characters were, but it bugs me not to know who really wrote the book.

I'm a big fan of the Castle TV show, and I wanted to like this for the tie-in value. But it's not very well written, and the banter between Heat (Kate Beckett) and Rook (Rick Castle) isn't nearly as good as the TV show. Almost any script would have been better than this disappointment. For die-hard Castle fans, it's interesting, but for a die-hard mystery fan, it's not something I'd recommend. The only reason it's a NY Times bestseller is because of the Castle fans, not because the book is good in itself.

I have to say, for a promotional fictional tie-in novel to a tv show. Not bad. Essentially reads like an episode of Castle (but for me that's a good thing). I'll probably pick up the next in the series, I know I've deifnately read worse procedurals. The only thing is I'm glad I was able to get it from the library since, even though it's all good fun, it's not worth the $25 price tag.

A nice novel! I like watching the T.V. show Castle, so I thought I would try out the spinoff book. I did not have high expectations, but I really enjoyed it! Good intrigue, and lots of action.

Sexual Content: Something the show doesn't feature: sex scenes and nudity. While there is a sex scene, it's not that graphic. Same goes for the nudity; a woman is walking around her home without clothing.
