We loved this series. Great audio-book reader, too. Very exciting and magical. We loved all the magical animals. Highly recommend for kids looking for fantasy novels where a regular character gets swept away into a bigger more magical world. Nothing too scary, but enough to keep the story going. One of our faves along with Septimus Heap (Magyk) and Harry Potter (although not as dark as the later HPs, so more suited for sensitive souls and younger kids).

Goldy is a young girl living in the city of Jewell. There, children are protected by Guardians and allowed no freedom until a chain cutting ceramony when they reach the age of 12. When something happens at the ceremony, Goldy escapes and runs away finding herself in the Museum of Dunt. There she meets characters who preserve the safety of the society in which they live. Change is inevitable--will Jewell be able to cope? Well defined characters and enough detail to fuel the imagination. The reader on this cd does an excellent job with all the characterizatons and they are believeable.
