I was in need of some easy reading that would still sweep me away, and this was the perfect story for that. If you are looking for a story about regular people (as opposed to aliens, zombies, or androids, which seems to be the common theme lately in popular literature), this book might be for you.

Very similar to authors like Diane Chamberlain, Kate Morton, and Kristin Hannah.

This is a generational story with good flow. It wraps up nicely with resolve and leaves you with a good feeling. This would be enjoyed by someone who loves reading family sagas.

Unwed mother, poverty, work ethic, rumors, inter-racial relationship, murder, secrets, and a granddaughter subsequently digging out a lot of the story while figuring her own life mistakes and being give a chance to start fresh.
As a Christian, I wasn't always happy the way we are preceived; I fear too often it is a correct picture.
I did find a couple of unexpected situations and it did leave me with some heart/soul searching.

A good book; it unfolds as expected. No twists or surprises but a sweet safe book. A good choice for a cozy afternoon. It didn't leave me with anything to think about - but sometimes that is what you want.
