I picked up this book to learn more about Mormonism, but the author's story is about so much more than the tenets of her religion. This is a great read for anyone who has ever felt out of place in their community or cultural tradition, ever felt like they couldn't reconcile childhood lessons with emerging beliefs as adults. Brooks describes her personal evolution beautifully and her stories capture her childhood perspective in ways that tug at the heart.

"Describes how the author struggled with her Mormon faith in spite of a loving childhood when she came to disagree with many of its tenets, recounting her adult pursuit of an honest life that balanced the beliefs of her heart and her faith." Biography and Memoir Newsletter November 2012
