When a Swedish literary critic is found tortured to death in a closet at Newark International Airport, the police realize that the murderer made off with the victim's ticket and boarded a flight to Stockholm. With no clear motive in sight, Detectives Paul Hjelm and Kerstin Holm of Intercrime's A-Unit learn that the method of torture used was not only a highly specialized means of extracting information secretly developed during the Vietnam War-- allowing the victim to whisper, but not to scream-- but also that it was the modus operandi of an allegedly deceased homicidal maniac known only as the Kentucky Killer.

This was a very good book, and I enjoy swedish mystery books, I like the way they write. Dahls' Paul Hjelm
is flawed but likeable and the premiss
that Dahl uses for the creation of a serial killer is thought provoking
a most enjoyable read. I am in the process of reading his first book Misterioso hope it is just as good as his second book.

"The "Kentucky Killer," a sadist who likes to torture his victims, has been presumed dead for decades. But he appears to have struck again - this time in an airport, taking his victim's seat on a flight to Stockholm and escaping police at his destination. As Swedish bodies begin to pile up thanks to yet another American import (the feared Americanisation of Swedish culture being a weighty theme), Stockholm's A-Unit finds themselves always a step behind, with few clues to the killer's true identity - or his whereabouts. Distinctive characters and touches of dark humour are only two of the appeals of this intelligent, resonant book, the second in the Intercrime series (which itself is the basis for the BBC program Arne Dahl)." 95% engaging and exciting; 5% torture porn. Dahl's descriptions of the serial killers' methods is painfully explicit--more than some readers will care for.
