Great read for an short update on the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. Not to say that I read everything on this topic, but many of the photos I had not seen before. I have placed a hold for Ansel Adams Born Free and Equal, his internment photos from the Manzanar camp. Personal family history is intertwined in this book.
Japanese-American regiment liberated the prisoners in Dachau concentration camp, ironically, since their relatives back in America had been rounded up and put in relocation camps during the war. Sandler tells the story of these camps and the life in them, and what their inhabitants faced when the war was over and they left the camps. Illus. with photos.
Great resource book - for this difficult period in American history after Pearl Harbor. Relates to current immigration issues and defining who is American - and, gives perspective to anti-Muslim sentiment after 9/11.
