Before Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly made most readers' acquaintance in An Irish Country Doctor, he appeared in a series of humorous columns published between 1993 and 2003 in Stitches: The Journal of Medical Humour. These 69 warm and wry vignettes provide an early glimpse at the redoubtable Dr. O'Reilly as he tends to the colorful and eccentric residents of Ballybucklebo, a cozy Ulster village nestled in the bygone years of the early sixties.

This book is full of wonderful short stories that were originally published in a Journal and add information not found in the other Irish Country Doctor series. Would be a great companion novel to go along with the other books to gain information and insight into the mindset of Dr. Fingal O'Reilly.

These short columns were enjoyable, but the novels are better! I also recognized she of these short stories, which were incorporated into the novels.
