The exciting launch of the Adler-Olsen cold case series and of the friendship between Carl Merck the hard nosed detective and Assad the mystery man who goes from maintenance man to sleuth during the course of this book. This book pulled me right in as has the series. Dark, current and fun.

I listen to audiobooks constantly. A great book can be harmed by a terrible narration, but an OK one can be ruined, and I think that's the case here. I listened to about 30 minutes' worth, and only lasted that long as I was on a walk! The narrator uses a "Danish" accent for all the conversation, and there's a lot of it. I heard him pronounce Copenhagen 4 different ways in those 30 minutes, and the rest of it was similarly erratic-- plus, his base accent was a lot closer to German than Danish. Just a ridiculous choice for the actor to have made-- he was apparently confident that his skill could carry a 13 hour narrative, but he shouldn't have been!

Another book about Carl, Denmark's first detective in Dept. Q which in in charge of cold cases. I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't great. 6 of 10 for me.
