"What if you were arrested for a crime you didn't commit--but had to prove your innocence without revealing anything about the crime that you did?" -- from publisher's web site.
"Riktor doesn't like the way the policeman storms into his home without even knocking. He doesn't like the arrogant way he walks around the house, taking note of its contents. The policeman doesn't bother to explain why he's there, and Riktor is too afraid to ask. He knows he's guilty of a terrible crime and he's sure the policeman has found him out. But when the policeman finally does confront him, Riktor freezes. The man is arresting him for something totally unexpected. Riktor doesn't have a clear conscience, but the crime he's being accused of is one he certainly didn't commit. Can he clear his name without further incriminating himself?" -- from publisher's web site.

A journey into the mind of a psychotic person : Fossum dissects and analyses his
dark impulses , his rage and anger and forces the reader to understand his motives and mental state causing his cruelty .. the vulnerability of his victims ( the elderly) makes it more horrifying , very Nordic Noir indeed.

I loved this book. Definitely, Nordic Noir is not for the faint of heart but honestly Fossum's books are tame compared to many others. It's all just good creepy fun.

I've read this book by Karin Fossum and another titled The Murder of Harriet Krohn and will never read another one due to the subject matter. She's probably an excellent psychological, murder mystery author but the people and murders she writes about are so dark, sick, twisted and horrible that I'll not forget them soon. If you don't want terrible nightmares, don't read her books.

Karin Fossum's books are always intelligent, well plotted and relevant to today's issues. She combines psychological suspense with mystery and has to be one of the top writers in this field. I certainly would recommend this book to anyone who wants a bit of a challenge in their reading.
