iblings Carole and John Barrowman create a fantastical world in Hollow Earth. One of the greatest strengths is the way in which they build Matt and Emily's connection; this may have something to do with their own connection. While it took me a little while to get hooked on this book, once I got into the story (probably somewhere around the time they fled from London) I was in the story! The entire concept behind this book is wonderful, and perhaps my favorite part was the way they included a few famous artists in the children's ancestry. This is definitely a lower level book that could be used as a challenge for children or as a transition for young adults. A great deal of imagination went into this book and a great deal of imagination could come out of it.

Matt and Emily Calder are unique, and they are about to discover just how unique they are. Matt and Emily have the power to bring art to life. With this talent they can bring medieval knights to present day, they can dive into pictures for a swim, and they can access powers others would kill for. Their mom has kept their powers hidden up until now. As the strength of their abilities are revealed, they are no longer safe. They flee from London to a remote island near Scotland to learn from their grandfather.
