The MartianeBook - 2011
Published posthumously in 1897, and largely autobiographical, the novel describes du Maurier's school days in Paris and the experience of losing his sight, as well as considering the idea of life beyond the body. The narrator, Barty Josselin, attempts suicide after he loses sight in one eye, which prompts the appearance of Martia, the Martian. Martia possesses Barty, and while Barty sleeps, Martia writes fiction in Barty's name, catapulting him to fame.
