On June 19, 1953, Harry Truman did something no other former president has done before, or since: he hit the road. No Secret Service protection. Just Harry and Bess, off to visit old friends, take in a Broadway play, celebrate their wedding anniversary in the Big Apple. Hopefully incognito.

Fun book about our Missouri president. It was a nice little glimpse into the lives of Harry and Bess. Funny to imagine they really thought they could just hop in the car and drive across the country unnoticed. It also put me in the mood for a road trip!

Quirky and lots of fun to read. Harry Truman was a truly decent man (but not above some sly digs at his enemies)
