You have probably seen 11 year old Kid President (Robby Novak) on You Tube. This is where I first encountered him as he gave advice to moms on mother's day ("Put down the phone...unless your kid's name is phone."). I fell in love with this kid's exuberant and positive spirit. I also laughed my head off and couldn't stop quoting Kid President afterwards.

When I saw this book, I jumped at the chance to read it. It is full of the spunky humor America has seen from Robby, but it also tells his personal story with brittle bone disease and how he powers through with a good attitude. Throughout the book, Kid President encourages kids (and adults) to be awesome. He gives many examples of awesome people who have been making a difference in the lives of others. He also makes us laugh. I can't help but give 5 stars to any book that encourages people not to be lame, but to be awesome. And the way to begin being awesome is to be awesome to others.

My favorite quote from the book: "A joyful rebellion is you living differently not because you're mad at how things are, but because you are swelling with joy at the thought of how things could be." Robby makes me swell with joy and I hope you take the opportunity to experience this for yourself by reading this book and reading it with your kids.

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Although this book is advertised for ages 8-11, I think it is appropriate for 1st grade and up. Excellent as a coffee table book, classroom book (3rd grade and up) or a book to read with your child.
